This is definitely one of those blogs. It is designed to call you out. To make you think about your actions. To make you assess your results. So… shut up and listen. If you are not seeing the fitness results you want, it is not the program. It is you. Most likely it is one if not all of the following points. So strap on your humble hat. Sit down with a pencil, and take notes. Lets see if you are guilty of any of the 3 holes in your men's fitness games.

  1. Impatient.
  2. No presence.
  3. Wrong approach.

Impatience

This…. This…. This… I cannot stress how important it is to have patience. We are fit men over 40. We need more time to recover. We need more of everything we do not do. Stretching, mobility, quality nutrition, etc. Our impatience leads us to doing the same thing over and over again without different results. When it doesn’t work, in comes the RX testosterone, or HGH. We still want the muscle now, and will do anything to get it. Check out this article on muscle building time frames. Take a breath. Slow down. Just because your doctor prescribes it, does not mean it's good for you. We do know exercise, recovery, and nutrition will provide the optimal amount of muscle for our required life task. If we are patient, we build a functionally strong body. One that will go anywhere, do anything, and feel great. What more can a man ask for? Take a breath. Take a break. Grow into the physical specimen you are destined to be. Share your ‘’impatient struggle’’ in the comments!

No presence.

I would bet $100 by the end of this article your mind will have wandered. If you have read this far, I am impressed. We live in a distracting world. New videos, text, or emails are flooding our senses and stealing our presence. It is also stealing your gains. Every “rest period” where you jump on Instagram, you are wasting valuable active recovery time. Stretching, mobility drills etc. This lack of presence leads to a lack of gains. Check out this article on mindfulness in the gym. The next time you go to the gym. Get into your muscles. I like to look at an anatomy chart prior to exercise. It helps me locate the muscles in my mind's eye and activate them during the movement. I like to use my rest periods to mobilize my joints or simply work on breathing. How do you struggle with presence in the gym?

Wrong approach.

I understand your hero told you to lift this, and eat that. We need to listen to our heroes. They provide direction. That is it. Many of us men are guilty of mimicking the training and eating habits of our favorite athlete. Some of us even share the mindset. Example A. I train strongman so I need to be heavy. Do you compete? Do you make money? If not, why so much wasted energy on making life difficult? We are not our heroes. We are the men we choose to be. This means we can say we are wrong. Sometimes, it is this simple. You are simply training incorrectly. The solution is simple. Do something different. I used to train (and compete) in powerlifting and strongman. I was okay at it. I ended up with a lot of pain and injuries from heavy lifting. I switched to functional fitness competitions about 5 years ago. Boom! My progress took off. I actually began to climb the local competitive ladder. Check out this article on aging and exercise. Here is my challenge. If your results have stalled, choose 3 different classes to try. Try each one for 1 week. At the end, choose one and commit to 3 months. This action will build the habit of trying new fitness genres. Eventually, it will lead you to a new concept of fitness.

The lecture is over. You may remove your humble hat, and replace it with your recap! 3 reasons why men's fitness stalls at 40.

  1. Impatience.
  2. No presence.
  3. Wrong approach.

There it is gentlemen. There is not much more to say. In conclusion, I will conclude the article! Thanks for reading!
