Do we really believe the 60 year old with abs? Is he really “natural”? How come my 40 year old muscles don’t look like that? We have to ask all of those questions. If not for self-accountability, for industry accountability. Let’s face it. The fitness industry we know today is unreliable. 22 year old “Fitness Expert” has the secret to your longevity? Men over 40 cannot trust the information we are provided. Fitness for men is a huge industry. Most of what we see is meant to advertise. I.e get you to spend your money on their product. There is nothing wrong here. However, we as the consumer must be aware of a few fitness industry concerns. This article provides 3 ways men over 40 can stay fit..

Time for the breakdown!

  1. Half-truths.

Marketing is designed to sell products. In order to sell a product, the consumer must be aware of the benefits. This is where the marketing half truth drops. All fitness products for men are tested in some shape or fashion. Whether it is a supplement in a lab or a strength program in a gym, some testing has happened to provide benefits of the program or supplement. Marketing will provide these benefits as available to you. The half-truth. The other half is not mentioned. The subjects who did not see benefits. Fortunately for us, we have the opportunity to provide the other half with self study. Figure out what metric your product affects. Track it, and you will know the other half.   1. Built as a business.

We live in a commercial economy therefore we must partake in commerce to fuel our society. The fitness industry is a huge cog in this wheel. Unfortunately, this means many of the products we are sold are based on questionable information at best. Many studies are biased from the start. A specific population is selected. A specific protocol is adopted. The benefits are shared with us. There is a glaring problem here. Are they really beneficial when the population is not random? Can we say the results are concrete when they are designed to elicit a specific outcome? Who knows? Who cares? We can easily bypass this concern with the age-old solution of “self study”.   1. Analytical guide

Ah the analyst. Sucker for the numbers. Vacuum of knowledge. The numbers speak the language of the fitness gods! Not true. The benefits used to market mens fitness products are largely provided by analysts. Analysts who most likely do not apply the information personally. Nor have they tested the results in the real world with real folks. Lab settings are great for testing, but not for conclusive evidence. If men desire to stay fit, we must self study and provide our own analytics for the products we try. We know now there is not a magic pill for fitness. It requires dedication, effort, and awareness. In reality, the fitness industry is not trying to swindle you. They do want to sell you products that are proven to work.
