Everyone has an opinion on how to stay in shape. It seems more gurus pop up with the new solution to abs at 40. The truth is the solution has always been the same. Consistent work over a long period of time. Choosing an exercise program for men requires 3 basics that must be present. 1. Strength. 2. Function. 3. Aerobics. Many programs fit the bill. My favorite is German Volume Training. The foundation is simple. 10 sets of 10 reps with a 90 second rest. 3 exercises at minimum. 5 exercises maximum. From this foundation, a simple effective exercise program can be planned. Let me dissect a bit more of my logic.

New athletes can start with 5 sets of 10 reps and slowly scale up to 10. Once 10x10 is achieved, increase volume. Simple. Linear. Progressive. We can all understand a simple strength program for men!

An effective exercise program for men, must challenge the heart and breathing muscles. Studies have shown repeatedly regular exercise increases mens cardiovascular and respiratory health.
