Eat Bad. Drink Beer. Be healthy. Fitness Tips For Men Over Forty
NO, the title is not click bait. Eating bad food, and drinking alcohol can be part of a healthy diet for men over forty. We first need to remember we are husbands, fathers, and human beings. We are not high level athletes. Therefore the ridiculous rules all the “experts” promote do not apply to us. Abs are not the point, but I have abs. I have had them for 15 years. I have stuck to this rule, and the results speak for themselves. I will not inundate you with information, just a simple formula for success, and my personal application. Comment with questions or if you need help applying this formula as part of your nutrition plan.
The following are 3 Nutrition Tips for Men over Forty.
- 5% Alcohol
- 5% Treats
- 5 minutes
5% of total weekly calories can be from alcohol
Pretty straight forward. No bullshit. Just math, and numbers. 5% of 7 days worth of calories can be alcohol. Let’s get to the example.
Weekly calories = 22,400 kcal.(3,200kcal/day)
22400*.05=1120 kcal of Alcohol.
This allows me about 10 beers a week of a quality lager beer for me. I can distribute this as I see fit. I do recommend smaller doses across the week. However, indulge as you please! I also maintain a very healthy and mobile body with this formula.
5% of total weekly calories can be from “cheat” foods
I have to be honest here. I am not much of a foodie. I do not “cheat” on my diet that often. I was fortunate to be born with poor tastebuds. However, my wife likes sweets. I will never miss a dessert date with my favorite treat! As a responsible man over forty, I have a home for it in my nutrition. Just to remind you, the math would be the same since we are using the same 5%.
Weekly calories = 22,400 kcal.(3,200kcal/day)
22400*.05=1120 kcal of “cheat” food
5 minutes a day to log calories
This is the separator. The men over forty who want a successful nutrition plan, will do this final step. The boys will say it’s too much work and walk away. You are worth the time. Invest in yourself for once. It is straight forward. Spend 5 minutes a day logging calories. The easiest way is using a nutrition app. These apps will add up calories and provide all kinds of information. All the while simplifying much of the process for you. I myself have been logging my calories since I was 20 years old. I used to have to sit down with a calculator and a computer googling food calories from poor websites. I even kept a 3 ring binder of my nutrition and exercise. Yes, I am that old. We should be grateful for the ease with which we can maintain our health today.

- 5% Alcohol
- 5% Treats
- 5 minutes to invest in yourself.
To close things out, I must point out a few things. 1. This formula only pairs well with a proper exercise plan. If you are “winging it” every time you go to the gym, grow up. It’s time to be a man and follow a proper exercise plan for men over forty. 2. Body composition must be known. Our body composition numbers will tell us how many calories to eat, as well as provide information for future comparison! In conclusion, the hardest part of being a man is stepping up and choosing the hard path. However, it is what makes a man out of a boy.
