Where to start? A damn fine question any man who is seeking to be healthy should ask. I have an answer for you, and it is a damn good one. How am I so confident? 1. I have studied & applied nutritional practices for 20 years. 2. I look better than you, can do more than you, and am more broken than you. I still have abs, drink beer, and eat sweets with my woman. Men’s nutrition after forty needs to be simple for it to be effective. Let me touch on the 3 steps to begin building a strong; durable body with quality nutrition.

3 Steps for Men’s Nutrition at 40.

  1. Measure. Weight, and Body Fat %
  2. Calculate. your Basal Metabolic rate..
  3. Eat. That much food.

Down the rabbit hole we go!.

3. Measure.

Measure your weight & BF%. This can be done with a bioimpedance machine, a hydrostatic machine, calipers, or DEXA Scan. Most of us can purchase a bioimpedance scale online. A decent unit cost about $90. There are cheap versions. However, your health is worth the expense. This scale will provide you with future measurements. Yes, health is a regular investment. Once you have obtained your weight and body fat %, we simply calculate our lean mass. For example, my measurements are 193.5 lbs and my handheld Bioimpedance Machine reads 15.2% body fat. Ps, which device you choose is irrelevant. If you use the same device over time, you will have useful results. I have had the same machine for about 18 years. Step 1 is complete. I have measured my weight(193.5 lbs) and my body fat (15.2%)

2. Calculate.

I will now use this information to calculate my actual daily Basal Metabolic Rate. Calculate your weight in fat. 15.2/100 * X/ 193.5 lbs = 29.41 lbs of fat. I will subtract this from my total weight.193.5 - 29.41  = 164.09 lbs. Now comes the fun part. I will calculate this number by 17. 164.09 * 17 = 2789.53. I have now found a useful number to begin working with. This number takes into account a proper exercise plan. If you are not planning on exercise, you will be eating too much. I also must make this clear. THIS IS NOT A WEIGHT LOSS PLAN FOR MEN. I do not eat to lose weight, or to have abs(although I do). I eat to be healthy. A healthy body has no excess. Excess weight includes muscle and fat. Step 2 is complete. Now we eat!

3. Eat.

This will be a short paragraph. Eat quality whole foods to reach your Basal Metabolic Rate. No more, and no less. Exercise when you are supposed to exercise. Rest when you are supposed to rest. It.
